Education

Education The education sector in Australia represents 40% of the Audio Visual market, and presents a unique set of opportunities and challenges. Universities in particular are experienced Audio Visual customers, and can be very fastidious in their requirements. Alder Technology Consulting specialises in working in this environment, and understands the challenges that dealing with multiple departments (AV, IT, Faculty and Properties) as well as a project design team can bring. Alder Technology Consulting works with some of the most advanced Audio Visual universities in Australia, and counts University of Technology Sydney, Australian Catholic University, La Trobe University, Monash University and Victoria University as some of its most valued clients. There are specific requirements for each client, and the experience of Alder Technology Consulting staff enables a dynamic and innovative design which integrates technology into the requirements of the education institution. In every classroom Audio Visual is the primary method of delivery, and the dedicated project management staff supplied by Alder Technology Consulting ensures that the installation is completed to the high standards that these institutions expect.

UTS Superlab

UTS Superlab

The Thomas Street Building 7 development is a $130 million specialist teaching centre with a heavy focus on Audio Visual integration. The highlight of the building is a 200 seat super lab, enabling 15 teachers to interact with students via wireless audio and two way video, with any student’s work being able to be shown on either the screens around the room or on the individual student displays on the desks.
Innovative design options used by Alder Technology Consulting has reduced a $4million AV budget to just over $3 million, with specification clauses allowing UTS to lower this further during construction. UTS was so happy with the works supplied that they immediately engaged Alder Technology Consulting to develop expression of interest documents for associated projects which were initially going to be completed in house. On the back of this, Alder Technology Consulting was selected to design and manage the Audio Visual installation at the Building 10 renovation. This involved complex medical training labs integrating simulation dummies, recording systems and traditional Audio Visual presentation systems.
UTS projects have a history of being delivered on tight timelines, with renovations or new builds requiring a quick design and construction to meet target dates at the beginning of a semester. Alder Technology Consulting has consistently shown with UTS and other clients an ability to deliver to these timeframes whilst still maintaining the quality required.
In February 2016, the Annual Crestron Excellence in AV awards were held, with Alder Technology Consulting winning Audio Visual education project of the year for their work on the UTS Building 7.

The Daniel Mannix Building at ACU holds a dear place in the heart of Alder Technology Consulting, as it represents the first six star green facility project we worked on. The building itself holds 10 floors of Audio Visual, with lecture theaters, dedicated nursing simulation labs and a state of the art exercise science laboratory wrapping around a stunning atrium designed by Woods Bagot..
All in all over $2.5m of AV was installed in this $50m+ facility, with the university including the Mark MacKillop chapel on the ground level.
Over the course of the project Alder Technology Consulting was able to upgrade the system to be one of the first digital video systems for the university using category cable, and add over $300,000 worth of savings and value to the project.

The La Trobe University Moot Court presented Alder Technology Consulting with an excellent opportunity to turn a very unforgiving room into an audio and video showpiece. Working with Hayball Architects, this long room with hard surfaces became a warm and engaging space for the Law department of LTU. The design was not based around a single partner, rather a number of vendors were handpicked for their suitability to the space. LCD displays were recessed in the ceiling along the length of the room, and individually lowered based on the capacity of the room. The audio was provided over multiple channels, with each section of the room tuned based on local requirements, and the space had the ability to record, stream out or participate in conferencing with other departments.
This room represented stage one for Alder Technology Consulting, with a further $3m of AV to be installed in the Donald Whitehead, Social Science and Martin Buildings.
